Need to go a long way to beat this place
|
My wife have been frequently tony's for over 4 years and is our favourite eating place.
whilst not flash to look at, the food and service are great and we have spent many an enjoyable evening sitting outside with a bottle of red and working through the menu.
value for money. marcus and his team do a sterling job.

Tony's is the best take-out in the region. the gourmet parmigiana (which comes with spaghetti bolagnaise not spirili pasta) is a terrific meal. every time we order it we get three meals out of it. my boyfriend drives trucks and eats at alot of various places cannot find a better feed. he takes one meal away with him, and has to take spares for some of his collegues whom request it.
i have tried just about everything on the menu and can say that it is good quality food, the kind you expect from a family kitchen. the pollo alla marsalla, gourmet parmigiana, and the chicken rissotto are stand outs.
the staff are terrific, and friendly. they are also accomodating to any requests we have had to alter or adjust the meal offered on the menu. even to the extent that my boyfriend created his own meal that is now included in the main menu.
i have actual italian friends whom say that this food is actually really good and asked the name and number. one particular italian friend even said the food was as good as his nonnas.

The pits

I've never been moved to write a restaurant review before, but just felt i had to this time.
visited tony's spaghetti bar last night for dinner. the "receptionist" was charming, but it went steeply down hill when the food was served.
we started with misto mare. very ordinary. commercially pre-prepared calamari rings, two pieces of fried fish (exactly like supermarket frozen fish), and a couple of prawn cutlets (ditto), served with bland tartare sauce.
the shocker was to come. my partner had the veal gourmet parmigiana and i had the chicken gourmet parmigiana. both commented that each was the worst we've ever encountered. my parmigiana was thin and dry and the crumb coating was soggy. it tasted like cardboard. the cheese was tough and barely edible. the italian sausage was like none i'd ever tasted and never hope to again. it was pale and insipid apart from a horrible five spices taste. i couldn't eat it. neither could i eat the overcooked spirali pasta and yukky tomato sauce with which the parmigiana was served.
if one dish had been unpalatable, there might have been some excuse, but both parmigianas were just horrible, and the misto mare was merely acceptable.
the bill for one entree and two mains, with no salad or extras was $52.00. this is on the steep side for a basic suburban takeaway with a couple of sit-down tables. for the awful food that was served, it's ridiculous.
