I have been coming to thara thong on hunter street for many years now and the food is always amazing. the freshness and quality of the ingredients, and the combination of flavours, surpasses any other thai restaurant i've been to so far. i went the other night with some colleagues, absolutely starving after a really long day at work, and the entrees came out quickly. we accidentally ordered one of the wrong dishes and the duck pancakes were the best mistake ever; and their red duck curry just gets better every time! keep on doing what you're doing thara thong!

Table service was very good
but whole atmosphere is not very asian and feels too much like some silver spoon brat hangout euro spec type hangouts of people from cooks hill.
food was found to have way too much sugar and a complaint was lodged by phone afterward to the manager
this is a very yuppie joint

This is grate classy thai restaurant. with all my favorite dishes. friendly stuff and good prices. with a lunch memu that sutes for everyone. its more then just a another thai takeaway that are very common these days . it is grate dinning out experience... to me going out for dinner is something i love 2 do and this is one of my favorite restaurants

As an avid restauranteur and lover of asian food i have had the pleasure of dining at thara thong over the course of 9 years and have celebrated many occasions, including my husbands 40th birthday this past february, my daughters graduation, and a christmas lunch last year with fellow work colleagues. whilst it is more expensive then its darby street counterparts, i do believe the food to be much more authentic; the french/japanese influences are truly exciting, and the atmosphere is unquestionably more aesthetically pleasing than the thai restaurant on darby street with those rather drab black tables and uninspiring pink table cloths.
the owner sophia is a charming thai lady i have seen dart around the restaurant greeting and taking care of customers whilst doubling as head chef and cashier, its really quite extraordinary. having said that, i too have also had to exercise patience on a saturday night whilst waiting for mains, which is never pleasant when you are ravenous, but in truth what do you expect? what a shame to hear you had such a negative experience clair, especially since i have come here to express my pleasant feedback. to that point, i have to suggest if you arent happy to wait, perhaps you could try mcdonalds on king street? oh dear, you will even have to wait there too.
i do remember not long ago when dining out was an experience and dinner stretched out over the course of hours. consumers these days are in far to much of a hurry to appreciate the dining experience.
thara thong is a lovely restaurant and you will not be disappointed.

Just experienced the worst customer service ever! all i can say is i will never eat again or recommend thara thong thai on hunter street! after being abused by the owner for a complaint about a main meal which turned up half an hour after everyone else had eaten with no apology. apparently customers like us that complain she never wants in her restaurant again, along with her throwing paperwork around and making a huge scene. we have been regular customers for years and to experience this on our first complaint was unbelievable and very dissapointing.

This is one of the best thai restaurants in the newcastle area. gr8 taste, pleasant atmosphere and terrific service. the lunchtime menu is the best value around.
