I have been eating at thai tulips for the last 5 years, and everytime i dine in, the customer service is amazing. the food is unbeleivable. i have worked for doreen before, and she is not the horrible person you all seem to be making her out to be! she would do anything for her customers, and more so, her employees. she lives for that restaurant. and just to clarify something for all you people complaining about how long it takes for the food to be made - there is only 1 chef! and he is absolutely amazing. the amount of food he cooks in a day, i can't even explain. the price may be a little steep, but it's so worth the money. i love thai tulips, and would recommend it to anyone.

Staying at a local b & b, we were recommended to thai tulips by our hosts - who hadn't been there themselves but had heard that the food was good... we had a reservation for 7pm, on a tuesday night, and arrived at about 7:02. we were seated promptly and the server waited (hovered) for us to buy a drink as we sat down. then, when at 7:40 we had not had our order taken, we tried (and after 5 minutes succeeded) in getting a waitress' attention. we said we were ready to order, and were firmly told to wait as orders will be taken strictly in the order we had been seated, and that only doreen could take orders for meals. she would go and see where we were in the "queue". "miraculously" were next. doreen took our order for a fixed-manu "banquet" and explained that there was a choice in desserts, but as one option was not available that night there was only one dessert available. we said ok, we'll have that one then! our meals duly arrived, entree and main - all ok. food all right but not special. then we sat and chatted for quite a while, and my wife said maybe it was time to go home. we discussed the fact that the dessert & coffee had not been served (more than half-an-hour after our main course dishes had been cleared, and decided to ask at the counter as the room was almost empty now (9.30pm) and the wait-staff were not in much evidence. i approached the counter person, who was a bit mistified by the request. he asked doreen (the owner) and she started telling me that the waitress had failed in her duty as she should have taken the order when she collected our dishes. i said that we were having the banquet and had told her (doreen) before what we wanted (as there was no choice anyway) and she abruptly told me she would send a girl to take our order. back at the table we discussed this and decided to not worry about the non-arrival of the dessert and to just go home. a waitress arrived and we said thanks but no thanks and proceeded to the counter. i asked the young man at the counter what the price of the banquet was with no dessert offered, and he checked with "someone" and said it was the same price, dessert or not. i then said that we were not happy with the service and thought that there should be some form of adjustment to the price as we had not had good service not the full meal paid for. he was insistent that the price was the same whether we had dessert or not, so i asked to see the manager or owner. he told me the manager was sick so i said what about doreen, the owner, who was standing about 5 metres away near the kitchen door. he went to her and she told him that this was not "her" matter and he had to deal with us himself. this was quite audible to us. the unfortunate man returned to us and repeated the line about the price being the same with or without dessert. i said firmly that i was not happy with that outcome and thought that the owner should be available to speek to an unhappy customer. at that point, doreen shouted across the room "that's enough sir, stop your complaining now!" we gave up at that point as there was obviously no point in communicating with someone who was shouting at her customers. we paid the bill and quietly apologised to the counter guy for the difficulties that his position exposed him to, and then left. we returned to our b & b and told our hosts, who have sent us a reference to this review site so we know we are not alone in our experiences. we have eaten in many good, ordinary, and even bad eating houses on 5 continents, and have never had this appallingly bad treatment!

1 star rating Poor customer service skills by owner
The owner definitely needs some pr skills....... after all she is in australia and not in the middle of nowhere !!!! dorreen, owner, needs to know that her so called "customer service" skills are appalling and she should not be in the business if treating customers the way she does. we would not recommend anyone go there as it is not worth it. disgruntled customer dec 08

1.5 star rating Owner needs customer service skills
You've got to be kidding me!!. made a booking for 7:30pm, got there at 7:28 and were still waiting to order at 8:pm at which time we complained and were told that the "owner" is the only one who can take orders and she was busy with other diners and we would have to wait-would we like another drink (which were expensive but that's another story). we asked to see the "owner" to complain and she eventually sauntered over with an attitude. i asked if she could take our order but was informed "this is a relaxed atmosphere, like waiting in a bank". i've never waited in a bank for half an hour after i've made an appointment, made that comment and told the "owner" that there were plenty of other restaurants we could go to and was advised that maybe i should do that. i immefiately asked for the drinks bill which she did not acknowledge and strutted away into her den. i approached the bar and asked for our bill, which was waiting there for us. i was served by a very nice, obliging gentleman who processed our bill and apologised for the trouble-he obviously is in a position that doesn't befit his good customer skills and demeanor. we promptly left and had a great meal, served in a timely manner at a chinese place in town and had a good time despite this debacle. memo to the "owner", check out who it is that you treat this way first, because we've sent quite a bit of business your way before but guess what-i'm in the midst of emailing everyone i know and will lodge reviews such as this on every site i can find to try to save other diners going through a "bank queue" experience.
