Under new managment
|
Its interesting to read the reviews and felt i needed to do an update. i have eaten there three times in a fortnight, once in a group including two asians, once as a couple and once with some mates and a philipino all thought the food was competent, well flavoured and good value.. we didn't have a thai with us but plenty of us have been to thailand and would say its made for the aussie market .. not a lot of chilli... but enjoyable for the price

Good food let down by shockingly bad service
|
Went here 15/10/12 on holiday. staff were rude. would not get a bottle opener for my drink, i had to get one from the car. waitress spilt rice over the table and me, without any word of apology or care. charged corkage despite having to open my own beer. best avoid this place as ok food is costly and you have to put up with horrible adolescent waitstaff.

Aussie thai?
|
If you haven't eaten thai food before this place may appeal to some. a soft version of something that may resemble thai food. an ocean side town with frozen seafood from other parts of the world. authentic is a spelling error which should be pathetic. the only authentic thing would be the farmed prawns from thailand. i have never seen broccoli, cauliflower, capsicum, carrots or so much brown onion in thai food. this restaurant appears to appeal to the masses. is this because descent places to eat don't exist in port or the masses have no taste? management has no idea of the product or service that goes with it.

Unprofessional management
|
When it takes one and 1/2 hours before you see any of the food that you ordered, you really wonder why you didn't get up and walk out when it did finally arrive. four of us went to this restaurant on 4 july 2009 and were appalled at the arrogance and lack of professionalism of the manager/maitre de (the 'earringed' one). the waitresses were friendly and did their best, despite their manager. the only excuse for the delayed service was that the new 'glass house' cultural centre across the road had just opened and they had a full house, and this came from the waitresses. the maitre dee didn't even attempt to apolgise or explain. when the 'rush' was over and teh restaurant was half empty, we still has to wait for 3/4 hour. when the food finally came, it was very nice, but we will not be going back.

Service with a smile
|
I can understand what the other reviewers are saying, but i dont think you can really expect a genuine top notch thai experience in port mac!
the food is honest and well priced.
yes, the wait girls are aussie, but they are exceptionally friendly and helpful.
can get busy, so go earlier or later, but a great place for a quiet basic thai meal.

Unspectacular take-away
|
Bought a penang beef and a tom ka chicken for dinner in our nearby hotel. after an extremely long wait we got our food. the curry was very aussie looking with unauthentic vegies - generally uninspiring taste. the tom ka was ok.
the restaurant itself is pretty bare and the service staff were all aussie locals.

Standard aussie thai
|
I have to totally disagree with the previous comment. the food we just ate was standard aussie thai, poorly executed at that. the atmosphere was reminisant of a school canteen, very open and brightly lit. service was provided by 15 yr old children with obviously little experience. overall a forgettable experience i wouldn't recommend.

Authentic thai cuisine
|
Not the westernised version, but genuine thai cuisine full of the flavours, complexities, and chilli, which make thai food unique.
