The owner if this place treats kids like slaves! i wouldn't buy anything from him! i experienced it myself when i walked into the shop with my husband. if your going to hire a kid and pay them $7 an hour! you can't expect the world! have some patience an put some time and effort into training you jerk!!

Just finished our friday night f&c's. so impressed! great burgers! great chips! they even threw in an extra lovely potato cake! we won't be going elsewhere again.

We had friends down, and decided on fish and chips on the beach in the evening on a balmy night. not having had f&c in mornington before we enlisted the web to look at some reviews first before deciding. prawn star definitely had some good reviews! well, it couldn't be further from the truth. it was a friday night and admittedly it was busy, however there were literally only teenagers cooking with one adult coming in every now and again to check on them! we ordered a range of items including grilled fish, crumbed fish and the staples (potato cakes, prawns, etc) the worst offender was the crumbed fish - looked almost dark brown in color, was about 3mm thick in most places (the fish not the crumb!) and was as dry as an old peice of paper! it was obvious by looking at it that it was overcooked so the staff should never have put it in the box. the other fish was ok, but what spoilt it was the the oil desperately needed changing. it had that horrible old flavour and spoilt everything. also the chips didn't even have salt on them. it's fish and chips for christ's sake - we want salt! the packs (for 2 or more) were served with sweet potato cakes instead of normal potato, - maybe i didn't read the menu properly but i didn't see it written there. overall, there was nothing about the meal we enjoyed. i have had great fish and chips before and some average fish and chips. this was the worst. wont risk it again. some advice for the owners - take pride in your business. there is nothing wrong with having young people work in the shop, however if they are under-trained, then spend some time training them and then supervise them to make sure the quality and procedures are being maintained.

Where are you going to find friendly staff, good fresh food, australian owners, great burgers, chips, dim sims, flake, bait etc that isnt oily or gressy??? prawn star fish and chips thats where. every time we have been there (at least once per week for past 4 years) we have grown to know these people! well done jason and donkey! oh and peter pan as well!

On arrival to prawn star we were informed that the grill had been cleaned, and that nothing else would be served. this was well before closing and the best part is.. i called only 5 minutes earlier to see if they were open. i've enjoyed the food there many times in the past, however i believe the place is under new ownership.
not a good way to hold onto customers!
(n.b. dava fish & chips was in the process of cleaning, and still were prepared to serve us)
