Just reading the other reviews and not surprised after the shocking experience we had at this establishment. three of us ordered fish and chips but our daughter (who is more health conscious, much to her credit) ordered a healthy sandwich elsewhere and came to sit with us. as we has ordered and paid for three meals (and the place was not busy (we know why now)) we assumed this was ok. it was not. the nasty old man that brought our food asked our poor daughter to leave, pointedly embarrassing her in front of the other patrons. we were about half way through our meals (which were very ordinary and overprice) but of course left with our daughter. we were so angry at this appalling treatment that we also left 'aussie' bob a parting suggestion as to what he could do with the remainder of our meals. he didn't like it. seriously, this place should not be allowed to use the name 'aussie' as in our opinion the treatment we received was not representative of the aussie spirit.

We were thrown out because we had our own water with us! mind you, it was tap water in drink bottles, not bought water. the owner is not a "people person" & should not have a job that involves dealing with customers! we felt sorry for the staff who looked harrassed & unhappy.

We were a party of 6 all but one (my daughter who is alergic to seafood were ready to eat the >$100 spent there. as my daughter came to join us with a burger form another shop we were all chucked out. the food that we were already eating was taken and put in take away bags. the owner was very rude and we will never go there again. later on i was told by someone else that they were chucked out because they drank form a bottle of water that was not purchased from there.

I loved the location and the food. however, i was very unhappy and shocked by the rude, uncaring, gruff attitude of the staff, one being the owner! they got my order wrong - asked for battered fish and they heard something else and got nasty with me when i corrected him (owner!)
unless you change your attitude and you'r staff's - we the general public will not be paying you a wage! first impressions mean a lot and mine were that the customer doesn't matter. : (

I work in the field of mental health and took my clients to what appeared to be a great fish & chip shop. not only was it too expensive ($7 for small/average chips) the fish was rae batter spongy. told could not eat outside and hen made a colike rubbishnt about the food i was told i was wrong. not impressed to treat myself and the autistic clients like rubbish.

We r a family of 6 we were on hoiladays in shoal bay for 2 weeks and went 2 aussie bobs a least six times and loved it,the food and the service was very good every one seem friendly i would recommend it 2 every one

Yeah - the first review is fairly right. it's expensive, service is poor and they take their business for granted. and with good reason - they've got the best location - right across the road from the beach. it's just such a shame that this beautiful location can't have truly decent service and good food.
i live at shoal bay and unfortunately travel to nelson bay for my fish 'n' chips - you'll get friendly service, much better food and much better quantity/value.

Although the menu had an impressive array of freshly battered fish available it felt grossly over priced. the hamburgers had the minimum of filling in them and the chip portion prices seemed ridiculous. the shop would appear to take it's holiday trade for granted especially if the attitude of the staff taking the orders was anything to go by. if i was going to spend that kind of money on eating out in shoal bay again i'd do it in a restaurant where the staff at least pretend to be grateful for your business.
